Header and Footer in MS-Word

1. What is Header and Footer?

A header is a text which you write on the top margin of the page and footer is a text which you write on the bottom margin of page. Headers and footers are useful for writing that text which you want to show on every page of the document. For example, header may contain the title of document and footer may contain page numbers within a document.

2. How to insert Header and Footer?

  1. Select “Insert” tab and go to “Header and footer” group.

2. Here you can select either Header or footer whichever you want to insert. On clicking header or footer, a list of preset headers and footers will appear as shown:

3. Select any one of the preset options and then click on “Close header and footer command” as shown below:

4. The header and footer will appear on every page of the document.
